Located in Zhengzhou’s rapidly developing Zhengdong New District, the proposed office tower by AUA (Atelier of Urban Architecture) is an iconic building that sets a precedent for the area. Derived from a series of indexical and analytical drawings, the design is a direct response to the existing site geometry. More images and architects’ description after the break.
The project seeks to fold and transform the ground plane to form the main building volume, with the aim of blurring the distinction between landscape, podium and tower, hence challenging the typical podium typology that is so common in China. The tower is rotated in plan at high level, to maximize views to the river and to the adjacent open sports ground.
The tower’s central atrium assist in low-energy ventilation, which in combination with the facade concept, seeks to minimize energy use and maximize ambient and spatial quality.
